The area of the world representing the countries of Southwest Asia and North Africa is commonly referred to as the Middle East. A list of countries included in the Middle East are Egypt, Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saud Arabia, Syria, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and Yeme. Islam is the major language for countries in this region and Arabic is the official language. Located in North Africa, Egypt has the fifteenth largest population in the world. The capital of the country is Cairo and the economy is based on the agriculture, media, and petroleum, and tourism industries. The country of Israel is located in Western Asia bordering the Mediterranean Sea. With a population of 7 million residents and a democratic society, Israel is the the most economically developed country located in the Middle East. The economy is market driven and is is aided by the substantial involvement of the government.
