Many of the great cities in Florida are experiencing steep decreases in population – a telltale sign of a declining local economy. Jacksonville, however, has experienced a near 12% increase in population since the year 2000, making it a coastal city booming with opportunity. The Jacksonville area has a wide variety of lifestyle benefits to offer its renters. With plenty of local amenities, limitless shopping destinations and a wide variety of rental properties to choose from, the sprawling city of over 800,000 residents is sure to be a place you'll be proud to call home.

Neighborhood Snapshots:
Jacksonville offers many neighborhoods to choose from. Depending on your lifestyle and budget, some may be more preferable than others. For example, Ponte Vedra is one of the area's most elite and desirable neighborhoods. It offers luxury rentals with all of the bells and whistles that are expected of a resort-like community. Spacious single-family homes, townhomes and condos are Ponte Vedra's most common rentals.

One of the most affordable neighborhoods in the area is the Westside. It's an ideal location for renters on the hunt for quality apartments, mobile homes, condos and even single family units. Young professionals, college students and young families tend to reside in the Westside due to its affordability and proximity to public transportation. Local amenities in the area are rather basic, though a custom sampling of valuable amenities can be had if an apartment community offers them.

Arlington, Argyle, Atlantic Beach and Jacksonville Beach are often thought of as the sweet spots between the affordability of the Westside and the luxurious environment offered by Ponte Vedra. These neighborhoods offer a safe suburban setting to raise a family in desirable locations at a cost that is attractive to the typical middleclass family.

Shopping in Jacksonville:
Jacksonville offers several thriving shopping malls to fulfill your needs, such as Regency Square Mall, St. John's Tower Center and The Avenues. Of course, there are also strip malls located throughout the city that offer services and goods from local small businesses such as baked goods, dry cleaning, health services, dining and more. The four main grocery giants in the area are Publix, Winn Dixie, Wal-Mart and Whole Foods. Wholesale membership stores such as Sam's Club, Costco and BJ's are also located within the area.

Strolling through a famers' market is a fun way to spend an afternoon. Luckily, Jacksonville offers many local farmers' markets that operate both on weekends and weekdays. Several of the most popular markets are the Jacksonville Farmer's Market, The Riverside Arts Market and The Landing Farmer's Market. The markets offer handmade goods, art, baked goods, produce and local honey and jams, among other things.

The Jacksonville area has plenty to offer its residents; a variety of rental properties, parks, malls, beaches and a close proximity to other major cities. Jacksonville is located within three to six hours of Atlanta, Macon, Orlando and Savannah, making all four cities ideal day trip destinations for Jacksonville residents.
