Omaha, the largest city in Nebraska and one of the top 50 largest cities, offers a wealth of dining, shopping, and entertainment that makes it an ideal location for families and singles alike. Omaha is home to five Fortune 500 companies, an excellent zoo, and the annual College World Series, and was named as America's "Best Bang For The Buck" city in 2009. No matter your family composition or interests, Omaha is a great Midwestern city in which to rent a property. It offers a wide variety of long-term rental property options.

Like many cities, the growth of Omaha can be traced by starting in its heart and moving outwards. The center of Omaha is its historic district, and this area features many beautiful older homes that showcase a range of architectural styles. Popular neighborhoods include Midtown, Benson, and the Dundee-Memorial Park district, which was named one of the Great American Places of 2011 by the American Planning Association. These communities are walkable in many areas and feature plenty of locally owned restaurants and businesses, making them a charming and entertaining place to live. There are plenty of charming historic homes to rent in this area, as well as more modern apartments and duplexes. Although many of the living spaces in this part of Omaha were built as much as 100 years ago or more, most have been modernized to provide a pleasant and unique living experience.

Downtown Omaha offers plenty of entertainment and culture, and rental housing here tends towards trendy lofts and modern townhomes. There is plenty of high rise new construction as well as older buildings that have been converted into living space. This area tends to attract single professionals who prefer an urban lifestyle over backyards and picket fences.

For those who prefer a more suburban living atmosphere, there are many rental homes and apartments to be found in the newer communities of Southwestern Omaha. Papillion, La Vista, and Bellevue all offer large traditionally suburban neighborhoods with large homes and well equipped apartment complexes. Pet friendly living is easy to find in this area, and there are plenty of parks for recreation and play. Papillion was ranked the #3 place to live in the United States in 2009 by Money Magazine, and housing costs tend to be slightly higher here than in neighboring areas. Shadow Lake Towne Center is located in Papillion and provides the surrounding areas with shopping and dining convenience. These communities are a short and easy commute to Offutt Air Force Base, and are a good choice for military members and families choosing to rent off base.

For renters seeking out Section 8 housing, the Omaha Housing Authority does not require recipients to live specifically in subsidized housing developments. Approximately 4,300 vouchers are issued per year and these can be used towards any housing that meets the program's criteria and accepts Section 8 vouchers. The OHA encompasses Omaha and the surrounding suburbs.

Omaha is a vibrant and growing city, and its varied neighborhoods offer a little bit of something for everyone. Regardless of the area you choose to rent in, you are guaranteed to enjoy the culture, charm, and convenience of this thriving Midwestern community.
