New Orleans, Louisiana may be best known for Mardis Gras but there are also some stunning homes throughout the area for rent. When you are moving into the area, you will need to make a lot of decisions when it comes to finding the best house for rent. The more you know about the area and your options, the easier it will be to choose a fabulous home.

There are a lot of districts to consider in New Orleans. Each area has something unique to offer. You may find yourself in the heart of a shopping district, near the water or by the university. It's important to explore a few different neighborhoods to see where you are most comfortable. Check out some areas such as Lafayette, Tulane and St. Roch.

Many of the homes you find in New Orleans are older construction. On the outskirts of town, you will find some of the newer developments that contain homes that have been built in the last decade or so. Many of these communities are also gated, providing more amenities as well as added security. If you don't mind a longer commute, you can enjoy higher square footage homes.

Two, three and four bedroom homes are quite common throughout the city. The majority of rental homes are one story, but you can find the occasional two bedroom home as well. To keep with the tradition of the South, it can be advantageous to look for a house that has a front porch. This will allow you the peace and serenity of sitting out front and catching up with the neighbors and just enjoying a drink.

Section 8 housing can be found in certain districts of New Orleans. When you are looking for government subsidized rentals, you won't have to look far. You must go through an approval process, however there are a number of great communities where you can save a significant amount of money in rent each month.

Rent to own homes are also available throughout New Orleans. While it's not likely that you will find any in the French Quarter, you will be able to rent some homes for a year or so and then turn around and buy them. Some lease-options will actually apply your rent money to the value of the home so your mortgage is less at the end of the lease.

Throughout the New Orleans area, there are stunning homes that are rich with history. Whether you want a single family home or a furnished condo, there are houses that are scattered throughout the city for you to rent. Establish the features that are important to you and then go in search of the home that fits your needs.
