Sunny San Diego is a beautiful city, mixing the charm of Southern California with the influence of its Mexican neighbor to the south. The city's many beaches and comfortable climate make it a particularly popular location. Several academic institutions and large companies are located in the area, with the shipping trade playing a prominent role in the local economy and culture. No matter what draws one to San Diego, the unique feel of this Californian city is enough to convince anyone to stay.

San Diego residents live in many diverse areas, but the city is not broken down into neighborhoods like many other urban environments. Instead, regions within San Diego are loosely defined by the locals who call them home. As different areas have entirely different feels, it is important for would-be renters to carefully consider what they are looking for in a future home.

Located just north of the downtown area, Hillcrest is a vibrant area with a thriving GLBT population. This area is particularly walkable, providing the residents with nearly everything they need within a stone's throw of their residence. From bustling cafes to quaint boutiques and restaurants, Hillcrest has plenty to offer. Most residents in Hillcrest reside in small apartments, lofts, and duplexes, all of which are generally available to rent.

Found just to the west of Hillcrest is Mission Hills, a more affluent neighborhood that is home to some of San Diego's wealthiest. The city streets here are dotted with adorable bungalows and large mansions alike, making for an incredibly charming neighborhood. A small business district makes it easy to shop at local merchants, while nearby parks are great for those with kids and pets. It may also be possible to find pet-friendly apartments in neighboring areas.

Of course the downtown area is also a fun place to call home, with its many ethnic neighborhoods and lively streets. Little Italy is a particularly popular enclave, home to authentic Italian eateries and lots of quaint cafes. Highrises have begun to be built in the area in recent years, meaning there should be plenty of condos and lofts to explore for renters in the area.

For those looking for a true cultural mecca, City Heights is one of the premier destinations in the city. Residents in this area of San Diego hail from across the globe, making for a unique local culture unlike anywhere else. Restaurants and local markets provide residents with a plethora of ethnic foods, making this a foodie's dream destination. It is often possible to find Section 8 housing in this area.

With its unique local population of individuals from across the globe and beautiful landscape, it comes as little surprise that San Diego is such a popular place to live. In fact, this bustling city is the second largest in the entire state. The many entertainment options in San Diego, fabric of different ethnicities, and plethora of recreational activities in the city make this California hotspot a one-of-a-kind destination unlike any other in the United States.
